Situated at 1000 m altitude, the six villages of the Bucium commune are laying on the Nord-West slope of the Meridional Carpathians, in the South of Apuseni Mountains (in the Metaliferi Mountains ). The distance between Bucium and the important towns in the area: 70 km to Alba Iulia, 40 km to Brad, 3 km to Abrud and 8 km to Campeni.

 

 

 
 

 

Hiking or bicycle riding, photography, bird watching, picking berries, riding, visiting memorial houses and archeological sites, skying, snowboarding, sledging.

 

 


The open areas between the glades are hidding bilberry and cowberry bushes, wild grapes, maces, gooseberry bushes, very well-known for the curative propertiess and the flavour of their sweet. The scenery of Bucium village is dominated by high hills with daffodils glades. The area is cut by cold water rivers and springs, forming deep valleys specific to the mountain relief. The rich vegetation varies from nemoral forests on the slope to the alpine glades and juniper trees on a higest altitude.

Detunatele, masive formes of bazalt, watch over the Bucium community. Unique in Europe, they remind of magic tales with fairies and giants. The locals say the, long time ago, Detunata Golasa (1258m) and Detunata Flocoasa (1265m) were a fairy and giant who got punished for their forbidden love.
